Part 1: First Look

[kit boxart image]

MSRP: $ 25.95
Review sample supplied by Miniart. MiniArt is imported by Dragon USA (www.dragonmodelsusa.com).

Miniart is supplying diorama kits in styrene, rather than the traditional materials used by other companies. I was very curious about these kits, and my first impression of this one is good. Everything shown on the box art is included, providing a good starting point that can be enhanced with other diorama materials like debris/rubble to suit your taste.

What you get in the box:
· 1x Vacuum formed cobblestone base with curb.
· 1x Vacuum formed wall section parts.
· 2x Injection molded lamp and wall detail sprue.

The Vacuum formed parts are supplied in .040 grey styrene. Vacuum forming causes the plastic to stretch depending on the draw (depth) of the pull. Consequently there are a few thin spots at the corners of some parts, but no voids or holes. These parts have very nice surface texture. The cobblestone road has an un-even surface and crown that I take to be intentional, but it may not be. In any case, it looks good to me and should really come to life with careful paintwork.

Detail parts are supplied in light grey injection styrene. These parts are nicely done as well. There is a small amount of flash but nothing to worry about. And you get enough parts to make a second street light for the spares box.

Also included is a set of German Sturmpionier from the Dragon '39-'45 figure series # 6174. These are not the current Gen 2 figures, but they are nicely done.
