| Part 1: First Look |
|
MSRP: $25.73 Distributed by Dragon Models USA: www.dragonmodelsusa.com The Underground Camaro Z28 is a re-release of a motorized kit, first issued in 1982. The detail on this kit is very basic and simplified. The instruction sheet has only 8 steps to completing the kit. The kit comes with only 3 parts trees, 2 molded in black and the clear tree which contains the windows and the taillights. All the trees and the decal sheet as well as the body are all individually bagged. Because this was a motorized kit the battery box is still present. Due to this the interior bucket is very shallow and sparsely detailed. The seats are molded in along with the center console. A dashboard and steering wheel are the only other parts included to complete the interior of this kit. The undercarriage is also minimally detailed with molded in exhaust and drive train from the transmission to the rear differential. This kit contains no engine detail at all. A plate covers the gapping hole that is present for what use to be the kits battery box. There are 2 sets of rims included, a set molded in black which have a more stock appearance and an aluminum plated set which are custom rims. Unfortunately, there are only 1 set of tires included which only fit the aluminum rims. So if you prefer the more stock set of rims you are going to have to search through your parts box for a set of tires that fit. Despite the kits shortcomings the body due to the initial release, this is a very nice representation of a late 70's era Camaro. The body is molded in white, there are few seam lines, the molded in detail is crisp and well defined. Very minimal flash to clean and no blatant sink marks to fill. Stay tuned for pictures from the completed build. I want to thank Dragon Models USA, Fujimi and IPMS/USA for providing the kit for review. |
